ALIANTA FAMILIILOR DIN ROMANIA Str. Cetatea Ciceiului nr. 23, sector 6, Bucuresti Tel. 0745.783.125 Fax 0318.153.082 www.alianta-familiilor.ro office@alianta-familiilor.ro 6 septembrie 2012 RUGAMINTE: BOICOTATI CROATIA!
Boicotul a avut succes. In vara anului viitor Croatia nadajduieste sa intre in UE. Nu am luat decizia aceasta in mod usuratic. Astfel de organizatii sunt American Family Association, Focus on the Family, Family Research Council. Cumparati produse romanesti. Creati-le in Romania! * Nu cumparati mobila facuta in Croatia, cumparati mobila facuta in Romania! Stimulati agricultura Romaniei! * Nu folositi materiale de constructie croate. Folositi-le pe cele romanesti. * Nu cumparati produse de consum fabricate in Croatia. Cumparati-le pe cele facute in Romania. CORESPONDENTA CU AMBASADA CROATA LA BUCURESTI July 4, 2012: The Honorable Andrea Gustovic Ercegovac, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Romania, Str. Dr. Burghelea Nr. 1, Sector 2, Bucuresti, Via electronic and facsimile transmission, 40-21-313-0384, croemb.bucharest@mvpei.hr Re.: Note of Protest Regarding the Croatian Embassy’s Support for Romania’s 2012 Gayfest Event Dear Ambassador Ercegovac: Greetings from the Alliance of Romania’s Families! We are a profamily and prolife civic organization and represent the moral positions and values espoused by hundreds of thousands of Romania’s families. Last month you joined with 17 other foreign ambassadors accredited to Bucharest in a Joint Declaration in support of Romania’s 2012 Gayfest event. We write to express our deep disappointment and disapproval of your action. We deem your signing of the Declaration an affront to Romania and its citizens, an inexcusable interference in their domestic matters, and an infringement upon their popular and national sovereignty. Until recently, homosexuality was virtually unknown in Romania and its culture and almost entirely alien to its vocabulary. It always has been and continues to be viewed as an immoral lifestyle by the overwhelming majority of Romanians, both in Romania and abroad. Polls taken in Romania on this subject in recent years showed that 91% of Romanians reject homosexuality and disapprove of it on moral grounds. Please, therefore, respect our feelings on this highly controversial subject and desist from taking judgmental positions with respect to matters that are of our exclusive competence. Romanians do not take positions on moral issues confronting Croatian society and reasonably expect the Croatian Ambassador to Romania to reciprocate. We believe it is inappropriate for the Croatian Ambassador to lecture Romania on the subject of homosexuality or on any aspects of its culture for that matter. The signing of the Declaration reflects cultural hegemony on the part of the Croatian Embassy for which there should be no place in the relations among nations. The role of an embassy is to link nations at the official governmental level, not to circumvent basic rules of diplomacy and take positions on the moral issues of the host country. We believe, therefore, that the Croatian Embassy erred and respectfully request a letter of apology or retraction. We hope to receive it no later than Monday, July 23, 2012, and to resolve this incident in private and in confidence. We close by affirming that we respect your position and office. We love the people of the Republic of Croatia and feel much affinity with them based on our shared history and Christian values and principles. We also appreciate the great contribution they have made throughout the centuries in promoting culture and hope around the world. At the same time, however, we must also ask, respectfully, that in the future, you, subsequent ambassadors, and the Croatian Embassy in Bucharest refrain from supporting or abetting homosexuality in Romania. Please limit your and the role of your Embassy to what is proper and acceptable under the international rules of diplomacy. cc: Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Republic of Croatia, Trg N. Dr. Burghelea Nr. 1, Sector 2, Bucuresti, Via electronic and facsimile transmission, 40-21-313-0384, croemb.bucharest@mvpei.hr Re.: Note of Protest Regarding the Croatian Embassy’s Support for Romania’s 2012 Gayfest Event Dear Ambassador Ercegovac: Greetings! We wrote to you on July 4, 2012 but received no response. This is the second, and last request, from the Families’ Alliance of Romania to withdraw the support Croatia, through its Embassy in Bucharest, lent to the gay march which took place in Bucharest in June. I regret to state it plainly, but have no choice: you have insulted us and have violated Romania’s national sovereignty. We have hoped that our July 4, 2012 correspondence would have been sufficient to convey to you the seriousness of the Embassy’s transgression against us and our country. Regretfully, it seems that our civilized and respectful plea did not resonate at all with either your office or the Croatian Foreign Ministry in Zagreb. We nevertheless are willing to extend your office a second opportunity to resolve this matter in confidence and without publicity and respectfully request, once again, that it issue, no later than August 20, 2012, a statement retracting your Embassy’s support for the gay march. Should you fail to respond or should the response be inadequate, the Alliance of Families will launch a boycott of Croatia and of its businesses and products in Romania. We will do so shortly after August 20. We are already gathering data on Croatian businesses and products on the Romanian market. There is precedent to our action. In 2010 the Czech Embassy and the South African Embassy also supported the 2010 gay march. During the summer of 2010 the Alliance of Families carried on a respectful dialog with these embassies which resulted in an apology from South Africa’s Ambassador. South Africa ceased meddling in Romania’s cultural affairs since, and has not supported subsequent gay marches. On the other hand, the Czech Foreign Ministry responded, and, in an insolent dispatch, advised that our request for retraction had been denied. Consequently, in August 2010 the Alliance launched a boycott of Czech businesses and products in Romania. Our boycott was well received and resonated well with our constituency. Our boycott worked. Since 2010 the Czech Embassy and the Czech Cultural Institute in Bucharest have ceased participating in or promoting the Bucharest gay march. We are still hopeful that we can avoid a similar action against Croatia. In closing, we are, once again, assuring you and the Croatian people of our deep friendship. However, it must be a friendship based on mutual respect for each other’s values. cc: Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Republic of Croatia, Trg N. S.
